What is the KONUS guest card?

KONUS is the free public transport scheme for Black Forest holidaymakers. If you stay overnight in a participating town and pay the visitor's tax, you receive the card free of charge and travel for free on buses and regional trains throughout the Black Forest.

The area is large: from Pforzheim in the north down to Basel and the High Rhine in the south, and from the Rhine valley east towards Rottweil.

What is included – and what is not?

Included are buses and regional trains (2nd class) inside the KONUS area. Not included are long-distance trains such as ICE and IC, mountain railways and cable cars, and entry to museums or theme parks. The Schauinslandbahn and similar lifts still have to be paid for.

Important: the card is personal and only valid together with photo ID. You receive one guest card per booking, valid for your entire travel party – not a separate card for each person.

From when is the card valid?

The KONUS card is usually valid from your arrival day through to your departure day, so you can use it for the last leg of your journey and for the trip back to the station, provided you already have it.

With us you receive the card at check-in. If you need it for the journey in, just message us beforehand and we will sort it out.

How the card relates to the visitor's tax

The card is what you get in return for the visitor's tax. In Triberg that is 4 € per person per night from age 16 and 2 € for children from age 6. We do not charge it at booking: you fill in the registration form on site and pay conveniently by scanning a QR code that opens a secure payment link.

For two adults and three nights that is 24 € – a single return train trip to Freiburg for two already costs more.

Questions our guests often ask

  • Does it cover children? Yes, the guest card is valid for everyone registered on your booking – there is one card per booking, not per person.
  • Do I need ID? Yes, the card is only valid with photo identification.
  • Is it valid in Freiburg and Titisee? Yes, both are inside the KONUS area.
  • Is it valid on ICE trains? No, only regional services (RE, RB, S-Bahn) and buses.
  • What about mountain railways? Not included, though some offer discounts.
